Winchester post 64 Model 70 experts - action screw spacing

Quick and probably dumb question on post-64 action screw spacing -

I picked up a MINT Model 70 Ranger but want to replace the bland stock.

I've seen the action screw spacing listed on different stock maker's sites as both 7 5/8 and 7 9/16 apart. My measurement comes out to 7 9/16.

Is this truly a difference that exists, or are some stock suppliers simply using a "close" estimate? This is a blind mag model, not one with a floorplate.

Thanks!

.

There were two action lengths, short/long, for different length class' of cartridges (like ".243=short action/.270=long action), which is why an inletted stock for each is different.

I discover the issue 20 years ago, when I bought a FW take-off stock to go on a .338 Sporter with a trashed stock.

I was lucky, though, in that the shop I bought the FW wood from had another, correct length, FW stock I could swap for - so in the end it worked out & I got an education.

Right - These are both listed for long actions. I think the short action stocks do have totally different (shorter) screw to screw lengths. I've just seen some LA stocks listed with 7 5/8 and some with 7 9/16.

I'd just hate to buy a stock and have it off by 1/16.

Thanks for replying!

Are you going to convert it to a floorplate? There are very few options out there for blind magazine model 70 aftermarket stocks.

Thanks guys, should have a stock in tomorrow or Friday for my blind mag rifle.

I did find some options out there, so if this one doesn't work like I hope it does, there are some alternatives, Boyd's being at the top of the list.
