I just bought a Winchester Model 94 Trapper in .44 - 16 inch barrel, 9 round capacity tube fed lever action rifle. Just wondering if anyone has had any experiences with this one...I'm itching to shoot it but have to wait out the #&$^%%*#*&@ 10 day Kali period before I can get my hands on it to bring it to the range :barf:.
I've never fired one, but the price was right at Big 5 ($279.99) and I have a Model 29, so why not...:D
Any opinions or critiques welcome!

Oh, here's a link to the rifle specs...

44 mag lever

i think you will really like it. i have winchester and marlin levers in just about every caliber. the 44 mag is easy to control and gives you the option of 44 special. i have found in my marlin that the pmc 240 hp shoots to the sights at 50 yards, but check yours out for best accuracy.

I've got the same thing.

Trigger's lousy, but OK for non-critical things like cowboy action shooting.

It does have an annoying tendency to get a round trapped under the carrier with the action open. The only remedy is to take the plug and spring out the front of the magazine, and pour the rounds out. This seems to be common with the '94s chambered for pistol rounds. It usually happens when the action is worked slowly, so it doesn't really affect real shooting, only bench shooting when you're trying not to throw your brass all over. ;)

44 Trappers

I have two of these fine little rifles and like them very much. I shoot a lot of cast bullets in mine and the handle them very well. The 300 yrd. gong can be rung with almost boring reppition and they are accurate enough to hunt with. I have found that my rifles hate light weight bullets, 240- 250 gr work the best. 214 gr.and lighter in cast will not group for me at all. enjoy your new rifle and good shooting. :D

You're going to love it. I picked up one just like it this year and have found it to be a reliable, handy little rifle.
I haven't had a chance to develop a load for it yet, but it seems to shoot very well with my pistol loads (240 SWC with Unique powder). Seems to be more accurate than the Ruger .44 carbine I had years ago.
When I have a chance, I'm going to load some 180 JHP and 300 SP bullets with IMR4227 powder for it.
Enjoy your new rifle.

I've been told...

About 20-35% depending on your barrel length.

So a 1200fps pistol should be around 1400-1500fps out of a 16"

Go check sixgunner.com; there are some details on rifle versus pistol balistics in some of the articles there.
