Mauser action, push feed, original sniper, todays sniper ect. Are the knowledgeable willing to enlighten me on which would be the best choice in .308 and explain why in terms the uninformed (me) can understand?
This will, at present, be the only center fire rifle I will own. It's purpose will span beginner rifle matches to mountain game gun.
This may be an old thread full of flames and bull roar. If so direct me to the thread.
Thanks,

Geez, Daniel
I have a Model 70 and I hear alot of talk about the Rem 700PSS. I think it is a personal opinion, look what some say about the Savage tact rifle.
No a slam to anyone but face it. ALL these rifles are capable of MOA if not SUB MOA out of the box. What are your

capabilities. I know I will never out shoot my Winchester.

Just MHO

Shooting performance of the actions aside, I like the controlled round feeding and blade ejector of the M70 a lot better than the Remington. You can simply leave the brass laying in your action or fling it as far as you want with the control of the bolt in the extraction cycle. It's just an excellent design.

A lot of people claim that the Remington is more accurate because of the way it evenly supports the rear of the cartridge or something. I've also heard that Remington's quality is greater than Winchester's, which causes Remington factory rifles to be more accurate than Winchester rifles (something to do with the way the barrels are attached to the actions). I don't think that this would be as much of a concern if you had the rifle built from one of the actions by a good gunsmith.

There was that story in the news a little while back about the Remington rifles having a defective safety. Of course, the people whose loved ones were killed weren’t following one of the most basic safety rules: always keep guns pointed in a safe direction.

But remember, this is just stuff I've gleaned from reading stuff off the Internet, so hopefully someone with first hand experience and years of wisdom will post to this thread.

Thanks fellows! Good information and advice. Especially the threads Mad Dod supplied.

One of the aforementiontioned threads said something about not seeing the model 70 in competition. Hell, I see model 70s in competition all the time. Usually kicking my ass. But I'm talking Highpower/Palma type competitions.

I like the model 70. For those who plan on shooting off of a bench, it's possible the 700 offers an advantage. Myself, I have no plans on ever shooting off of a bench again.
