Winchester Model 52 ?

My dad's friend has a Winchester Model 52 that was made in the mid 30's , it has a Sears scope and the rifle is in 98%+ original condition. He wants $1000 for it and is firm on the price. I don't know anything about the M52 and was wondering if his price is in reason. I don't want to give to much for a gun, but then I don'nt want to miss a bargin either.

If it is the target rifle, with the big stock and heavy barrel, that is too much. If it is the Model 52 sporter, with the sporter weight barrel and slender stock, grab it; those are going for three times that price. The scope may hurt the value as few (if any) of the Sporters were factory drilled and tapped for a sporting style scope. The regular target models were set up for peep sights and for target scopes with barrel blocks.
