Does anyone have information on this shotgun? It is a semi-automatic, ventilated rib and WinChoke. It can only handle 2 3/4" shells. Any assistance will be appreciated.

The reason I asked is because the 140 was the "low budget" 1400 Win. semi-auto. I had one once.(Good gun!) I can't think of a "240" off-hand! Give me a while, I'll be back unless you already get your answer. I doubt it was stamped wrong.(Don't give out your serial#!!!!!!! you never know who is looking!)

240w?????
This has ME searching for answers! I cant find ONE thing this on this gun! Now, the 140's are not listed in most books either. I talked it over with the guys in the shop, and we all think it must be a lower-priced 1400 like the 140. It may have been manufactured for a chain store like K-mart. They sometimes change the model numbers for these stores. If you want to, you can describe the gun to me a little better so I can picture it.The 1400's are easy to find pictures of in gun value books. I looked threw about 10 different ones and could not find the 240w. I would say, if it indeed is a cheaper 1400, you are looking at about a $200 gun.HOWEVER, the 140 I had was a great shooter and was worth 3 times that to me. I sold it because I was young and stupid!!!!
If I find out any thing I'll let you know.

Here's as detailed as I can get. Like I said before, it's chambered for 2 3/4" shells only. It has light colored stock and forarm. The stock has a checkered pistol grip. The forearm is checkered on the sides and the bottom of the forearm has checkering in a three diamond pattern. It has a recoil pad. (Which I thought was strange for it only being a 2 3/4). The action is gas operated. Finally, the trigger guard appears to made of high impact plastic. The bolt release is located on th bottom of the action, dirctly above the magazine tube. That's as detailed as I can get without taking a picture and sending it to you. Hope this helps.

bttt.....

I just purchased one of these for my son yesterday. (Patriot`s Day here in Massachussets. I won`t let a Patriot`s Day go by with out doing my patriotic duty and aquiring another firearm. Besides, it was dirt cheap!) From what the guy at the store told me, the 240 is cheaper version of the 1400. It replaced the 140. That`s really all he could tell me. There seems to be a shortage of info about this particular gun. Anyone out there know anything about the Winchester 140 or 240 semi-auto shotguns?????

Somene told me that they thought "Western Field" was the name of the guns that were sold through the Montgomery Ward catalog way back when they used to sell such things as firearms. Does this ring any bells with anyone?
