Winchester Model 24 or Savage Fox Model B?

I am looking at 2 very similar SxS's. Both are 30in barrels, good condition, and about the same price. Is one superior to the other in any way?

Also, the Winchester doesn't have a serial #, should I be concerned at all about this?

SN's weren't legally/federally req'd on firearms made prior to 1968.

Neither gun should be problematic with moderate shooting, and the Savage definifely wouldn't be with heavy use - but if either/both were to need repair, I'd hate to have to find the parts & have the Winchester fixed.

There were probably about 2,000,000 more of the Savage SxS's made than the Winchester 24's - so parts & expertise aren't a problem with that one.

The Winchester Mod 24 was an econo gun, while the Savage Fox Model B was at the top of Savage's line at the time, it was by no means a high grade shotgun.

I vote for the Savage.

I had one of the Savage Fox guns made in the early 70's. I worked all summer mowing neighborhood yards saving up the money to buy my first gun. Biggest piece of junk I've ever owned. I kept it about 10 years and it spent more time at the gunsmith than at home. After one gunsmith kept it for over a year and got it working I sold it cheap.

I would save my money and look for an SKB. For a daily shooter you may be a little dissapointed with both.
 
Even if you paid 3X the cost of one of the previous guns you would still be in the entry level of SXS shotguns. Good SXS's aint cheap. Cheap SXS's ain't worth bringin home.

If you only have a budget that will buy a used Savage, your money will be much better spent on a decent pump.
 
I've already got a pump. I would like a decent SxS that I can afford with my student budget, which means I've got about $600 to spend. With this budget these 2 guns seem to be what I'm looking for. It will not be a daily shooter, just something I can take out during the weekend and shoot some clays with.
