Winchester Model 1892 choices

Can't afford an original Winchester Model 1892...

However, I'm looking at the current Model 1892 manufactured by Miroku for U.S. Repeating Arms. This is apparently the same rifle that was previously marketed by Browning.
Does anybody have personal experiences or evaluations to share?

Another choice would be the current Navy Arms offering of the Rossi Model 1892 Lever Action carbines and rifles? They are also offered in stainless steel, which would be desirable for blackpowder. Does anybody have any experiences to share about these rifles?

There are also some Italian copies of the Model 1892 of which I'm totally unfamiliar. Any comments on these?

As I approach decision time, I would appreciate your input.

i shoot cowboy action with a rossi 44 mag. i had problems with front barrel band moving and changing point of impact and had to get smith to put larger screw to lock in place. these guns are in the 250 range and i think worth it. i've seen the stainless but was too shiny for me. i've seen the winchester you're referring to and they appear to be a work of art. i like the win 92 gun but most cowboy action shooters here are going with the Marlin-they seen to be smoother and less likely to jam (trust me lever actions can jam-mine did today due to me short stroking the lever)..Dick

Dick, Thanks for the input. My delayed response is due to new job responsibilities that occupy 120% of my time! Just got promoted to "Director" and got a BIG salary increase coming. The good news is "more money - more guns" - BUT the bad news is "less time to go shooting."

The Model 1892 has always been high on my "wish list" ... along with other guns I always wanted but never could afford. Currently I have a Winchester Trapper 44 Magnum and have considered getting a Marlin now that they offer "case-bullet friendly" barrels.

Also been looking at Winchester Model 1886 (reproduction) but they are expensive. I've never spent over $ 1,000 for any gun, and I'll have to adjust my mind-set before parting with that kind of cash.

Cowboy action shooting sounds interesting, but I am unaware of any such organizations in SE Alabama. Maybe after my job situation settles-down I'll hook-up with the Huntsville Cowboy Action Shooting group (in N. Alabama) for some occasional weekend fun.
