Winchester Model 1892 32 WCF

I inherited a Winchester Model 1892 in 32 W.C.F that belonged to my FIL. The serial number is 593### which I believe puts the manufacture date of 1911. I also believe it to be a round barrel sporting version.

It sat in the corner of his bedroom for at least the 17 years I've been in the family. It's in decent shape, but I brought it to a reputable gunsmith to have them go through it part by part and clean, oil, ensure function, remove surface rust, etc.

No I am concerned this service work might impact the value. They are not going to refinish anything, just a complete tear down, clean, and oil.

Will this impact the value of the rifle?

Thanks!

It depends on how tough they get with that "surface rust."
A good soak in penetrating oil and a coarse cloth, ok.
Oil and very fine steel wool, applied gently, maybe.
Hard burnishing wit steel wool will show and discourage collectors.

So you are going to sell an Inlaw Heirloom?

I'll play devil's advocate.

Your gun, do as you wish.

I hate rust. Patina is just another word for rust. I will clean any corrosion off a gun if I can do it.

But... Your gun, do as you wish.
