I recently just got a Winchester Model 12 pump 12 gauge. I honestly do not know much about it. What is its value? How old could it be? And i have another old gun and i just want to make sure this shotgun is safe and good to use because i intend on using it alot.

Like everything else in terms of collectibility value, the starting point is condition. Imo, whereas the original Winchester Model 70 has been rightly dubbed "the rifleman's rifle", the Model 12 could be called "the shotgunner's shotgun". Both were (and many would argue still are) time proven icons that all other rifles and shotguns were (are?) compared with to determine if they measured up to the "Gold Standards" of the day.
When it comes to all the important attributes a pump shotgun might offer in terms of material, workmanship, design and handling qualities, the Model 12 is hard to beat. Imo, only the Remington Model 31, the Ithaca Model 37 and (maybe) the Browning BPS come close.

I have collected and studied these for decades now so have a working knowledge of them. If you could post some photos, you will better answers to your questions.

Should I sell Granddad's Model 12? It's a c.1946 20 ga. Field Grade. Nothing wrong with it but it's just a safe queen to me.

Contrary to what 99% will say - if you have no use for it and it has no family or sentimental value to you, then sell it and get what you want. Sell it to someone who can appreciate it. Remember though, once you sell it, 64 years of family ownership and memories are gone.

THAT is the decision only YOU can make
