Are there any problem areas in this firearm. Just bought a first year production gun and intend to use it.

My father in law has one that he's hunted with for years and has just passed down to my nephew. Good shooter. No common problems that I'm aware of.

Had a 100 carbine several years, as long as I fed it factory ammo it was flawless. Most of the time with reloads too.

Winchester had a firing pin recall years ago. It's still going on. Contact Winchester for details.
I did one for a customer and Winchester sent me the replacement pin and paid me to do it.

Thanks for all replys, I had heard a rumor on the firing pin recall. I guess the pin would stick out in the bolt causing doubles or more.

There was a problem with the firing pin that made the gun go full auto on you. I have one and have killed several deer with it, I like it alot, but have retired the old girl as it was my late grandfathers and I don't want to hurt it.

Cold

You may have a fairly fancy single shot rifle if you're hunting in very cold weather. I've seen that happen more than once with BAR's and Win 100's. It was down around 10 degrees both times.

I have two in .308's, a rifle and a carbine. Both are great shooters and more than accurate enough for deer hunting. I compeletly disassemble and clean mine before and after the deer season, do this and you will have no problems. Watch the magazine don't drop it or bend the lips. I reload all my ammo for these using small base dies, ammo functions perfectly. They have a rep for jaming, normally caused by people to lazy to clean them. If your's jams, clean it and check the magazine. A little secret, if it jams because it is not throwing the fired case out of the action, replace the extractor spring in the sliding piece in the bolt face with a new one or stronger spring. Some of these weaken over time and don't hold the case head with enough force until it moves all the way back and the ejector kicks it out.
