Winchester Mod 70 problem

I have no real experience working on these, so I need some advice. A friend gave me a Model 70 in .30-06 after a failure at the range. When the bolt is all the way down and the trigger is pulled, the gun will not fire. When the bolt is lifted part way, it fires. If the bolt handle is positioned just right, it will work, but the lugs don't seem to be fully engaged and locked. It's old and shows lots of wear on the sear surfaces with shiny spots that are uneven in the middle. My instinct is to replace these parts, is there anything else I kneed to know or do?

Thanks to all.

Sir:
Don't attempt to fire the rifle again until inspected by a GOOD gunsmith! There are just too many things it could be!

Yes, we have been testing it with a .32ACP chamber adapter to avoid any unpleasant surprises. I guess it will be Winchester instead of Numrich gun parts.
