I happened to run across one of the new-production 1886s the other day and commented that I needed another 45-70 like a hole-in-the-head.
After three days of looking/reading/sporadic handling... I again came to the conclusion that I needed another 45-70 like a hole-in-the-head.
Then I read all about the infamous stick-to-SAAMI 2.55" cartridge-length limitations, Garand-like over complexity, short/non-existent throats, ...and ogive interference.... etc, etc, etc.... and absolutely cemented the fact that I needed another 45-70 like a hole-in-the-head.
So these are shots 8, 9, 10, 11, and 12 out of that rifle, using nothing more than my standard/same Marlin`95, (and my Sharps, ......and my Ruger#1) BP-Level cast load.
Yeah, I needed another 45-70.....
(unfortunately, it took a Merit Aperture to get these eyes to focus on anything like the stock buckhorn sight/notch/front beads anymore -- so later this week a Williams FP-71 arrives....)
