I don't have any experience with Winchesters. My one .308 is a Rem VLS and I couldn't be happier. Unless maybe I could get my groups down to 1/4". I will say though that it is a long throated son of a gun and I hear that is typical of Rem .308's. If I want to make up loads that can fit the mag I end up .080 to .120 off the lands in most bullets. It still shoots good though and some day when it's time for a re-barrel that will be changed. Good luck. Clint

BB: I'd go for the Winchester 70. Why? I like the long extractors. Reliability is what that means. My Sharpshooter has the target style H-S Precision stock and claw extractor, heavy barrel in .308, and shoots like a dream with handloads or Fed. Match.
The Remingtons are okay, I guess. I almost bought a Sendero, but went with a 7mm Mag Winchester Laredo instead. Again, the long extractor was an influencing factor. You really can't go wrong whichever brand you choose. It's like picking a caliber. A 270 will bust a whitetail as good as a 280.

I've owned them both in lots of calibers. Just about every time I find my self picking up a Remington.
Why ?...for me it's personal. Just about every Winchester I've ever owned was a good shooter..but the Remington for some reason always edged them out. Not by much , I'm talking maybe a quarter inch difference at 100 yards.

But what does it for me is the saftey. I HATE the saftey on the Winchester. I've shot 2 running bucks that I dont think I would have had the time to manipulate the saftey on a Winchester. For me , the saftey on the Remingtom is much more natural and definatley quicker. I guess it's whatever youre used to. Both are good guns. One thing about it though, on the benchrest circut you hardley ever see a Winchester, but you see lots of Remingtons. :)
