Winchester M70 Coyote

A friend has a M70 Coyote in 223 that has the worst trigger I have seen in a while. The pull must be 7 lbs or seems like it. You start pulling and just keep pulling until yu think the safety is still on and it will eventually fire.

I have never messed with triggers on any of my rifles, as they were not this bad. What can be done to make this thing more fun to shoot?

Thanks

The pull weight on winchester triggers can be ajusted fairly easily.

First make sure the gun is unloaded of course.

Take the action out of the stock and look at the trigger assembly. There are two 1/4 nuts that are holding a spring that controls the trigger weight. Loosen them and move them down the little rod and it will lessen the pull weight. I really wish they had an ajustment for creap. Some of them are not too bad but I have one that has a fair amount that I can't easily get rid of.

One thing you MUST check after adjusting the trigger is that it won't go off if the gun is dropped. After adjusting the trigger put the action back in the stock and bang the butplate on the ground a few times to make sure the rifle doesn't fire prematurely.

Hope this helps.

Beautiful looking rifle...

I just saw one of these in .223 at a semi-local shop with a Weaver V16 scope in Leupold rings for $799. It was a striking rifle. I almost bit, but dur to my immense satisfaction with my .308 PSS, decided on getting a Remington 700PSS in .223 using my Remington LTR in .223 in trade. I found the LTR to be very picky on ammo ( it absolutely refused to shoot heavier bullets well, but was great with Black Hills 52gr Match.)

Any reports on the accuracy of the Coyote? I do like the looks of that gun. Maybe .243...

700PSS Shooter,

He's still breaking in the barrel, but using Win Q3131's it is shooting about 1" at 100 yds.

My Bushmaster V Match loves the blue box Black Hills 52 gr MHP's. Shoots .5 at 100 and a little over 1" at 200. Might even shoot better it the operator was better. I tried the 50 gr VMAX Black Hills, but the accuracy wasn't there.
