Winchester M 59

Lethal Farce

New member
Got a chance to buy this M 59 w/ Alloy receiver and fiberglass wrapped barrel. Seems to be a great older auto. Light, and no recoil w/ a gun that felt very light. I don't know anything about this model except it had only a couple years production. Any info would be appreciated.

Frank Woolner, the late New England grouse hunter and writer, preferred the 59 to all others, and praised it to the skies. Others did too, but the novelty of the "Plastic" bbl turned folks off. The brand new idea of changing the choke by using tubes didn't fly either.

Too bad,the piece was and is an excellent design, and the people I know that have them rarely let go of them.

They ARE a bit muzzle light, like an grouse/quail gun should be. Some practice with them accustoms one fairly fast to the swing.

Check the bbl near the muzzle to see if the fiberglass is shredded and unwinding. If not, and the price's right, get it and enjoy...
