Winchester Large Pistol Primers

A friend of mine sold me some Winchester Large Pistol Primers. I noticed on the package it says for standard or magnum loads. I've never noticed this before. Maybe it's just me. Are these more powerful than regular large pistol primer like the ones CCI uses. Does Winchester make just standard large pistol primers. I notice they have separate products in small pistol primers.

Yes, the WLP is more powerful than the standard CCI primer, but less than the CCI magnum primer. I mostly use the CCI brand, but have had no problem with WLP either when I've had to use them.

Winchester only make one no Magnum Primer . I have used them for years in everything . Really it is the only primer you need

A few years back i brought a brick of win mag primers.....had a butload of them not fire, after a couple hundred fired and maybe 30 not go off, i contacted our aussie distributer.....they couldnt give 2 knobs of goat -CENSORED--CENSORED--CENSORED--CENSORED- of care.......switched to federal and never had a missfire since

I have loaded / shot almost 1K 45 auto rounds loaded with WLP and 231 powder and nary a dud. Before my local supply store stocked CCI and that was what I used. Then they switched to Winchester and I thought 'oh boy' but nothing different. Never loaded any 'large magnum' rounds with them which is likely where you would notice any difference if at all.

My favorite primer for .45 ACP and 44 Mag. Used thousands of them without a problem. When I have it choice, it's what I go with.

the last year and a half, I have switched exclusively to Win primers, I really like them. I chose to stick with them because they seem soft and form fitting to any pocket, rarely have to use excessive pressure to seat like when using CCI or Tula's. I am about 7 thousand into my Win primers, not a single one failed to boom with any action I own, which I think is pretty much all the actions. neat about a middle road primer tht can do both, I like that concept, anything that can streamline my products is awesome, willing it works well. ATM I have found WIN small magnum pistol to fill the role for all my 9mm's, 38's, 357's and 300BLK loads, very happy with the performance and the generally low cost. they always seem to run 20% less than CCI around here and even moreso compared to Remington(which is the only brand I ever had misfires from, but I was new to reloading and it was likely user error, but still haven't gone back).

I would be all for a small primer that would fill the role from rifle all the way down to SP and not have to shop around for primer types, maybe the future will bring us this? unfortunately that would require all of our data be chucked.

Got a couple of thousand of them in storage, and have shot probably an equal number in .44Mag and .45ACP, never had an issue and use them interchangeably.

The first time I saw them, I thought I needed Magnum specific primers, so I bought some CCI's. The CCI's are still sitting unused at the moment, and they are at least 20 years old and in the small Blue and White boxes.

aussie copper project, with all the talk about 'more powerful' I almost switched to Winchester from Federal, now I am back to Federal. I am the fan of 'the most powerful'. R. Lee is one of the most influential influences on my primer selections. I have been sold on Federal ever since the Federal delivery driver blew his tail gate off? I like powerful primers.

federal are also my favorite, i buy them if they are competitiely priced, i am starting to get over the packaging. federal's are one of the only primers that give me a "noticeeable" difference in power, those and Tulammo (KVP?)-223 primers. But i believe winchester's to be the best for ease of loading and hassle-free shooting. i think for most people's uses, Win is hard to beat, simply due to the composition of the cup.

I shoot a lot of WLP...

But only in cartridges that use medium to fast powders. WLPs can have difficulty igniting large doses of slow powders, such as H110 and WW296. This problem is most noticeable in cold temperatures, but I have seen it during warm weather as well. if you are loading large magnums with slow powders, I recommend CCI 350s. Have never had ignition problems with any powder in any cartridges, up to and including 500 Linebaugh.

I've been loading them for nearly 30yrs and can't say I have ever had a "primer" related issue. I have had some not go off but I will attest this was on rounds loaded on my progressive and could have easily not been seated to the bottom of the pocket.

Once I got that into my head, all of my hunting loads are seated by hand now using a Lee or RCBS seating tool, and I have not had any issues over the past dozen or so years of doing this.

I'm not going to say that this is the case every time, just I have not had some of the experiences of others in having issues with Win WLP or even any of their other sized primer. I have a couple of thousand of them sitting along side the other brands, and I use them all with confidence.
