As a new owner of this rifle, it is pretty nice. It averages 1.5 MOA with five different factory 130 grain loads. I still prefer my beat up ugly old pre-64 in .270. Any one else have this rifle? Likes or dislikes?

I have one in .30-06. It too averaged about 1.5MOA with the loads I made for it. Have not shot it in a while, but it is begging to be taken out in the woods this year. My biggest complaint is the way it was treated before I got it in a trade, not the gun's fault, though. Recoil was not bad at all. Finally figured out how to disassemble the bolt, my gripe about the gun at first.

At the end of several miles of walking, that Featherweight will be some ten pounds lighter than your regular-weight critter. Two pounds at daylight, leaving camp, = 20 pounds at sundown, gettin' back.

My two hunting buddies(father and son) both have featherweights in 270. One a 1958 model and one purchased in 1982. both are good shooters, but that pre 64 is really special. I have a 280 Remington in a Model 70 Lightweight in the laminated Wincam stock. It does the job on whitetails real nice with the Federal Premium 150 gr loads.

I used my dads .270 featherweight on my first deer and quickly got a .30-06 of my own because of the experience and have also added a .257 Roberts. I also own a couple pre 64 mod 70's, one of them a .270, but I don't shoot them very often. I enjoy my featherweights and am always trying to improve my groupings. The .30-06 is probably in the 1.00-1.25" range with 165 gr reloads. Seldom is it the guns fault if there is a poor shot. More likely it is operator error!!

A review of this rifle in 7-08 appears in the latest Guns and Ammo Proof House.

They like it too... they like all the guns though...
