Winchester bolt

For a Winchester 1873 (original), what is the safest way to remove the bolt and firing pin? To do the least amount of damage. Is there a trick to it? I actually need to repair or replace the extractor.

Thanks

info for you

I am not totally sure on this, but you will most likely need to remove the floor plate, drop the locking block, remove the lever as well as the hammer for the bolt to slide out the back of the receiver.

You will have to remove the screws holding everything in to remove the parts that I mentioned to you. It might be best to search the Winchester website and see if they have a diagram of the rifle to get a better look at it before you begin. It isn't too complicated if you have done it before, but the first time can be a little bit intimidating.

Thanks

I have already removed the side plates, toggles, elevator, dust cover and associated parts. I can see how these work I just cannot figgure out how to get the bolt and firing pin out.

here you go

Sounds like it just has some dried oil on it and it is tight. Use the lever to push it to the rear and then use a dowel or something to push it out the back. If you have everything removed, it should come out, it may just need a push. A lot of times oil will harden and give you trouble on the lever actions. The ejector can cause trouble as well.

Make sure the locking block is removed from the gun and push on the bolt from the front with the dowel.
