i have a 94 AE trapper in 357mag. it had an accident a few years ago! someone fired a reload in it and it blew up...there is some damage to the rifle but i think it isn't that bad...i hope. the magazine cover and screw are gone, bolt has a small peice on the bottom broken, and the firing pin and extractor are gone. the gun is in mint condition other than damage and i really would love to get it going again. i have checked witih numrick and some other places and i can't really find any parts for it...does anybody have a parts gun laying around or have an idea of what i can do to get it going again? thanks!

Have a gunsmith look at it, as I suspect there is more damage than you describe. You'd do better to spend your money on a new Marlin 1894CL.....

i don't see any other damage to frame, barrel, chamber, or any of the grooves for the slide; so, i think it should be ok...for what i spent on the gun and what it's worth i think it is worth trying to fix it.

[i don't see any other damage to frame, barrel, chamber, or any of the grooves for the slide; so, i think it should be ok..]

Just because YOU can't see or recognize any obvious other damage doesn't mean that it doesn't have some hidden damage.

For starters, the pressures might have been high enough to stretch the frame, and it now has excessive headspace.

IMHO, it should be checked out by a competent gunsmith and/or at least the bolt magnafluxed for internal cracks.

you are correct, they may be hidden damage...but for what i have in the gun i'm going to try and see if i can fix it. the bolt is getting replaced so it doesn't matter if it is cracked or not.

Sir;
Never, never, fire anyones handloads! I'd replace the rifle - you don't know what metalurgical damage is done!

i didn't fire it. i only shoot my own stuff. everyone on here just says throw the gun away but it isn't trash....don't you guys ever fix anything that is broke or do you just buy new stuff everytime somethng happens to it. if you fix and repair the damage and do a good job and don't cut corners, the gun will be good to shoot. this isn't a 7mm mag or 375 H&H mag where there is a massive recoil and stress on the frame. this is a 357 mag that will mostly get light 38s shot through it for plinking.

If there was enough damage to damage the bolt, extractor, firing pin, barrel, and magazine, I would say the gun is totalled. Even if metallurgical tests showed the metal is OK (which I doubt), the cost of the parts and labor will easily exceed the cost of a new rifle. Go buy a new rifle, and stop using those reloads.

ok, again, the reloads were not mine and i will continue to shoot my own reloaded ammo. it has several advantages to store bought ammo. 2nd i am simply asking if you guys know of where i can buy parts or who might have them so i can fix the gun 3rd i didn't start this thread to ask if you guys thought the gun was ok in your opinion, i asked to help locate parts.

Have the Barrel X-rayed and checked for stress marks and cracks.

But I'd think that the barrel being the toughest piece in the entire system would be last to fail regardless of the amount of damage behind it.

I'm pretty sure the tolerances designed by the manufacturer are a but off after an incident like this.

Don't you think there's a reason why most gave a negative opinion of fixing it, instead of helping you when you asked for help ?

I, for one, didn't offer a parts solution because I didn't want to be the one to help lead someone down the garden path - since I'm not guessing at this situation, I've BTDT, NTS.

You're a grown person, and obviously going to go ahead, anyway that you can, so - Via con Dios !

.

that is where a long string and the lead sled will come in handy for the first several shots to test her out. i found all the parts to fix it....do you guys buy a new car when your brakes go out or do you fix them?

94 winchester

Send it to Winchester they still have a service dept.
94 is not as strong as other lever action rifles such as the marlin.
You bent the guide rods as well, that is why your loading port is missing.
Winchester has seen a lot of this with the 94.
As a gun shop owner and smith they can fix it a lot cheaper than I can.
plus is guaranteed at handle SAMI specs when their done with it

Sir:
We're not trying to be flippant, smart, coy or mean to you! We're trying to give you good advice.
Yes, you can part this thing back together! I once had two Mauser actions so called, "heat treated" - I asked the man what the "rockwell" test was on them. He said about 40 on the C scale. Problem:
No Rockwell marks on the reciever! I put them on the anvil and beat the rings solid! You've got to be safe!
Trying to repair a rifle, particularly a Winchester lever action that has blown up, seems to me to be downright dumb!

Winchester will probably replace it with one of the same serial number.
I’ve seen it a bunch of times, its part of their service to the owner. Springfield Remington, Armalite, and Smith & Wesson. Also do it.

i talked with the original owner of the gun...he took the loading gate and mag cover off. they didnt blow off. i think he exagerated the damage to me and i to you all. i will call winchester tomorrow and see what they say.
