Winchester 94

Can anybody explain to me what is up with the trigger on the new Winchester 94s? I have a 94AE 16" in .357 magnum, and the rifle is great, but the trigger is gawd-awful. It has this spring-loaded "play" in it, meaning you can pull it back a little bit before it'll drop the hammer. I think this was designed as some kind of saftey feature for people who don't have the sense to keep their fingers off of the trigger....

taking into account the design is 107 years old, I think the trigger is pretty darn good. Polish the contact points and it will be a little smoother. as for the slack, I think we are all stuck with it.

Well...

The slack in the trigger (THAT'S the word I was looking for!) isn't hard to get used to, but I noticed that the Marlins don't have it. It's a great rifle otherwise, though. I just wish I knew how far each of the tick marks on the elevation sight represented...

Nightcrawler. Don't know what they would be in .357 Mag., but in 30-30 it seems to be an increase of 50 yards for each notch. I haven't checked out my 94 in .45 Colt yet, but if you know what range you want on a more or less permanent basis, fing the one that is closest, but still high and carefully file the notch until the rifle prints where you want it to go. That's what I did with a 30-30. I just forgot about the other notches as if they never existed and use Kentucky elevation. That's worked for me for over 40 years.
