winchester 94 30-30

ok i want to know how to tell if my winchester 30-30 ranger is pre-64 or not...how can i tell? what do i look for in the rifle? here is a picture if that helps...the 30-30 is obviously on the bottom lol.

Rangers were way post 64. Probably a 1990's gun with the safety on it. Pre 64's have a SN less than 2,700,000
 
Its not a pre 64. Many ways to tell,mainly by the serial numbers. Other ways are, the angle eject came in the 1980's? as did the reciever safety, plastic buttplate, are all signs of post 64 production.
 
A Ranger isn't a Pre-64 but they are still fun to shoot. I sold my first M94 and regretted it was an AE before the cross bolt safety. Found a 1971 top eject a couple years ago and picked it up. I will not be selling this one.
 
The Rangers were a lower priced model for the big box stores. I bought mine at Wal-Mart for $240 in 1998. Great guns, but not worth much today.
 
ok thanks now i know. i was thinking about selling it and buying a saiga or something but im not sure how much i could get for it so do yall think it would even be worth selling?
 
Drop the level to open the action - and peer in to see if you're looking at stamped or cast metal.

(the post 64 uses stamped - the pre-64 is cast)
 
I have been looking for another one and most I have seen are priced around $400 and not in very good condition. The 94 Winchester is selling now is made in Japan and over $1000. Yours may be worth more than you think. Hornady's LeverEvolution ammo has brought back a lot of interest in lever actions and Marlin has gotten a bad rap since being sold. Winchester 94s of any vintage are commanding fairly high prices.
 
Just because it's a post 64 and a ranger model doesn't mean it's not a good gun. If I were you I would keep it. I love the winchester 94's and all of the configurations weather top eject, angle eject, half cock safety, cross bolt safety are not that big a deal in my opinion. Either way they make a great hunting rifle and are loads of fun to shoot. And being a post 64 just means you can use it and not worry about hurting the value of a collectors item. If you really want to sell it , it looks like yours is in great shape, ask as much as $400 to start and wait and see. Check www.gunbroker.com online gun auction. Many people are paying more and more for used winchester 94 .30-30's now and they have really gone up in price recently. Don't listen to the guys that tell you it's only worth a couple hundred bucks, they are behind the times.
 
The last one I bought was a few months ago at a gun show for 175.00. It's not the prettiest thing but is very accurate.

mod 94

my mod 94 (mfg 1954) is a dream to shoot and own , i have a lot of rifles and this ranks in the top 5 i love the 30-30 its a rifle for all seasons,,,,.:D
 
thanks guys, now i have options. i probably didnt mention i have only fired it 3 times (as in prolly three bullets through it) haha. so maybe ill go get a box of rounds shortly and have some fun with it. that should help me out alil more with my decision of weather or not to sell it.
 
I just couldn't bring myself to sell mine. The rifle is just entirely too wonderful!
