Winchester 44 magnum Silvertip - hunting load or self defense load?

I bought several boxes of Winchester 44 magnum, 210 grain Silvertip hollow point. The product number is X44MS. One of the boxes is labelled as being a "hunting" round.

Is this round really intended for hunting, or was the box mis-labelled? I purchased this round for self-defense, as the Silvertip line of Winchester products all seem to be designed for that purpose.

I suppose you COULD hunt with it but ground hogs
would be about it, IMHO. There are alot more suitable loads available from Federal, Cor-Bon &
Garret to name some good ones. ( I've heard a few poor reports on Remington seperating...). The
new Win. P.G. looks good but I've never used them.

If you have Freedom Arms or Ruger Super Redhawk
Garret's hammerhead hits like a truck. Best...dewey

I wouldn't consider the Silvertip a hunting round. As a rule, I prefer jacketed soft points to hollow points for hunting deer-sized game with the .44 mag. Haven't personally used hard-cast solids, but they also have good reputation.

I'm sure it was designed as a defense round, and while I'm sure there's better, don't see why it wouldn't serve adequately as a hunting round.
