Winchester 37

I have a Winchester #37 in a 20 ga. Since they didn't serial number these is there any way of dating this shotgun? Also, instead of saying mod. or full it just says choke. Please enlighten me, does this mean full? I've got a 10 year old gun trader's guide that prices this at $150, is that about right? It's in excellent condition. Thanks....

Your 37 was made from 1936-1963

Value=EXC=$300.00
I am not sure of the choke bore. It seems that for that shotgun it would mean full. this could depend on the bbl length.

Thanks Harley, it's worth more than I thought. FWIW it is a 28" barrel. I was hoping to be able to narrow it down a bit closer on the age, but probably impossible without serial #s. Thanks again....

This is and isn't really an answer but they made over 1,015,000 of this model from 1936-1963. I would guess that the lower the number the older it would be. (That's not always the case though). No idea on around how many were produced each year.
There also were "Red Letter" models. These bring something like 10%+ premium. I assume this refers to red lettering?

fal, they did not put serial numbers on these guns at all. None, zip, nata, kinda cool huh? It's not a case of no records indicating when certain serials were produced. I was hoping that maybe they stamped differently during different time periods. thanks

Looking back at my post I see where I wrote wrong. I saw the part about no SN in my reference but somehow I blew right it :o. Sorry about the confusion. That's what I get for posting at the end of my day. :)

Hi
Where was it made?
I'm just curious because I have a Model 37A, 16 ga, 30 inch barrel. I'm pretty sure it has a serial number (I'll have to check later) and says "full choke" on the barrel.I was suprised to see that it was made in Canada.

Phil, it was born in New Haven, Conn. Yours is a bit later model, born between 1973 and 1980.

thanks for the info. Mine must have been one of the first 37A's. My Grandfather traded for it and had it a 2-3 years before he died in '76.
