Winchester 30-30 question

Thank you.
Will any of the numbers/markings on the gun help narrow down the year made or specifics about the gun?

Your number is so close and thousands upon thousands are built every year that I'm pretty sure it's narrowed down more than enough.

What is your concern?

Take some pictures and post them up. If you have trouble posting pictures creating a photobucket account can make it easier.

I suppose you didn't really say but we assumed it is probably a Winchester 1894 30-30.

I don't have one from the 90's but if you look at the left side of the barrel it should have some writing on it that should help.

I have never found a reliable SN source on-line or Winchesters made after 1963. There are some books out there with more information, but I don't have one.

Some features will help narrow down somewhat. For example, does it have a crossbolt safety. Is it angle eject with threaded holes for scope mounting. The type of wood used in the stock helps some too. Photos really help if you can post them.

Here's a couple pictures to view. Rifle says Winchester Ranger. Barrel is damaged where it meets the bolt, it's chipped. Is the gun valuable enough to replace the barrel? I have no money in the rifle, came from a family member.

It's an Angle-Eject & the Ranger models were the low-end versions with hardwood furniture.

No collector value, you'd have to decide how much you want to put into it on a re-barrel.

Thanks. I did a little research and found some info on the internet saying the chip is normal on angle eject rifles, extractor fits in location when closed. Looks like a weak spot to me but the extractor fits in the slot. Thoughts?

That's an extractor slot or cutout & the gun can't function without it.
I can't tell in the photo if it's cut poorly or not, but a chip it ain't.

You've just learned something.
