Well, have a project that has been on the back burner for a while, but now am trying to find a barrel to rebarrel a mid-50's Win 92 in .44 mag. Trouble is, can't seem to find any barrels. Anyone have any ideas? No luck with Rossi barrels, as they have a different thread pitch (as per Nate Kiowa Jones, the Rossi wizard). Thanks!

Also, speaking of Taylor -- www.taylorsfirearms.com - in their Parts section. Like the Rossi NKJ said "no" to, I do not know if the Chiappa/Armi Sport threads are sympatico also. Also check with Winchester itself (ditto, don't know of TPI/pitch has changed or not)...as Miroku has been making the .44 Mag for some time now, and as icing on the cake would actually say "Winchester" on them!

Also FYI, no such thing as a 50s Win 92. The last of the old Wins was 1940/41. All other Win 92s have been appx 90s to present Mirokus. Otherwise, custom barrel as already mentioned.

Also--a thought--might check to see if a 94 .44 Mag barrel would work. They were in production for many years late 60s or early 70s up to Connecticut plant closing. Don't know re TPI or other fit issues.

Edit: looking @ Taylor's Firearms (not the other Taylor) parts section, of the .4- calibers, they only list .44-40 barrels. Even if correct thread, etc (don't know), I also do not not know if they're .427 or .429. Cimarron and LSI (Legacy Sports) also market Chiappa/Armi Sport 92s and.in .44 Mag, but I see no parts section listing barrels. You'd have to call them.

Doh, should have done a bit more homework. My dad's dad had this in his garage and he said it was from the 50's. Two demerits for me....:D Thanks everyone for the great responses so far, I have some leads to run down now.

D-R: see my edit @ bottom, above. I'd call Winchester first ('cause of how nice obviously would be re name etc on barrel), and work down from there. What year do you think the 92 is now? Scroll down on the following for a link to a calculator:

...And what starting caliber?

Converting a real Winchester Model 92 to .44 magnum is not simple.
You not only have to have the right barrel/chamber, there is action work required to get the gun to feed a straight case instead of even the slight bottleneck of .44-40.
Best not to push the loads. The barrel shank is small and the receiver ring is thin. I don't know what the repro makers do, just better steel or beefed up dimensions.

44 mag barrel

I have an old original 1892 44/40 that has been rechambered to 44 mag. I amwant to find a 44/40 barrel to get it back original. Want to trade barrels?

Stookless...the thread is two years old...also if yours has been converted to 44 mag you will need new guide rails &other action parts.
