Winchester 1300 problem

My Winchester 1300 seems to have developed a strange problem. Sometimes, a second round won't fit into the magazine tube. Sometimes, the first round will get stuck IN the magazine tube.

I'm stumped. I'm using standard factory ammo.

The shotgun has been in the corner by my bed for months now, usually unloaded. It is sitting next to the radiator. Could that have something to do with it?

Is it time to upgrade to the 870 and get the steel receiver?

Have you tried different ammunition? If the gun has been sitting unused, I'd wonder if the ammunition may be misshapen or perhaps otherwise out of spec.

Worth a try.

Hmm. I bought the ammo back in October. It doesn't look out of spec. It's Federal tactical 00 buckshot. I'll try it with other ammo.

I have a Winchester 1300 "Defender," and when I try to manually unload it (putting my thumb into the magazine tube and releasing the cartridges into my hand, it seems like I generally get one or two out with no problem, then I can't seem to get any more to pop out. I wind up cycling them through the action to get them out. Not a big deal I guess, but it seems a little odd and sounds like it might be similar to your problem. I've never experienced a problem with the shotgun actually feeding the ammo into the chamber.

If you still have the problem with other ammo, you might have corrosion from moisture getting into the mag tube. I've only seen it before when people shoot in the rain and the shells were wet when put into the tube.

Sounds like crud or corrosion in the mag tube. Second choice, crud behind shell catchers. Take the mag assembly off and clean it, then lube lightly. Look for roughened areas and grunge. Also check and see if the spring's impinging and/or kinked.

And yes, it's time to upgrade to an 870(G)....

You should be able to with NP. My cousin has a winchester and has always seemed to be on the losing end of a rust war. Something to think about.
