I've got the oportunity to get a pretty good deal on a Winchester 1300 20 ga... how are they, any glitches, anything to look out for ??? strength ??? durability??? functionality ???
I just sold a 1300 20ga Defender and it is a great shotgun. I had no problems with it. The only reason I sold it was I wanted a 12ga shotgun. I really liked it and it is very smooth action.
To me, the 1300 compares very favorably with the Remington Express and Mossberg 500. It isn't a Wingmaster, IMO, but it is a good shotgun. I've had one for many years, shot it quite a bit, and never had a single problem with it. If you're looking at a good deal, I say go for it.
I believe it is in the latest G&A that Patrick Sweeny evaluates a new FN shotgun. He compares it to the 1300 and says that his experience with 1300 is not good. But that the FN is a much better built gun.
I had one and I shot it a few times and it always worked. I think it depends on how much you are going to use it. I had mine for HD and it did it's job. I don't think they are as strong/durable as a Remington, so if it going to be your everyday hunting gun it probably won't last to long.
They look like the Mossberg 500, the W1300 is very under rated. Don't buy anything you doubt before some research and try to Google "Winchester 1300 failure" and read the horror stories, the Rem 870 and Moss 590 are just superior guns cause the attention they get and all the upgrades and variants.
12gLA "They look like the Mossberg 500, the W1300"
The Remington and Mossberg look more a like. The safeties are in different places and the 1300 has a shorter fore grip on them.
I think MagWheGun knows what they look like.
Love my Winchester and it's atleast 20 plus yrs old and fires on target. Im not the original owner, but it has the age and it is still going strong and feels very solid. Winchester is legendary and has a solid reputation..sure, theres a clunker in EVERY brand, but Winchester is as solid and reliable as any made..anyone tells you different, they are BSn and being slanted.
