I owned a mossberg before and the park finish made the gun feel nice and tough, but the action I didn't like from the start. It was also a little long for my taste. I sold it since a shotgun would be the last thing I grab in an emergency, unless the emergency was a flight of ducks making a bombing run on my barn. Now I want to get a shotgun again so I can put a pistol grip stock on it and have a Benelli look alike in my collection.
I originally discounted the 1300 because it didn't have a park finish, heat shield, 9 rnd capacity, and for some reason it looked a little fragile. Now I don't see a need for a heat shield, 8 rnd is plenty, and I noticed that it is the small tappered forend that makes the 1300 look weak. The safety is also in a better place for a pistol grip stock. I also noticed that the lenght is about the same as the 7 shot 870. The finish on the 1300 looks very good and the action is amazingly tight and smooth. Since a store here has them on sale for $259 I figure on picking one up. However, I doubt I will shot it much since I have my DSA FAL and Bushy AR to play with.
