Ive got a Winchester 12ga. Defender. What are the best loads for home defense. Im the only one who knows operate it as my dad is a cop and works nights.

Why not ask your Dad?

Many prefer OO buckshot, particularly if wall penetration is no safety problem ... otherwise, something smaller.

00Buck will work fine. I also have the short Aguila slugs, that cycle fine, but right now I have it loaded with 00Buck. Neither one recoils real bad; its shootable. Just make sure you shoot whatever you plan to use at the range, to see how it cycles and patterns, but also to get a sense of what its gonna feel like.

Hornady TAP seems to be the best right now but any OO buck should suffice. Like mentioned make damn sure it works in the gun first. I had 2 1300's in the last 2 years and both jammed all the time. Under recoil the first shell in the magazine would slip out and jam the elevator nicely. That was with birdshot also so definatley check yours out thoroughly with buckshot. Good luck
