Win. Model 12 ?

Ok pump gun fans, here ya go.

Did Winchester produce the Model 12 in 16 gauge with 26" bbl and full choke?

There is one for sale locally so configured. I suspect it's been cut. The muzzle bears a shiny ring and is not blued, and 26" - full does not seem right for that era.

Who knows?

yes they did.....right from the start until the late 40s or early 50s when they started cutting back on barrel/choke combinations.....measure the choke....on winchesters the standard drop in choke gauge works pretty good...

Measure the inside of the bore --- past the chamber - mid barrel if you can ...and then measure the inside of the bore at the choke end ....to make sure there still is a "choke" to the barrel.

If its been cut ....there probably will not be a "choke" to the barrel...or it might have been fit for a Cutts Compensator at some point / they were very common back in the day.

You can't just go by what the barrel says...

The shiny ring could be the solder left behind from a Cutts/Poly choke that was removed.

Those chokes are very good but don't add anything to the value. Actually they take away from the value. So a gun with out it would have a higher asking price than with it.

If this is like the M97's check to see if the serial number on the receiver and the barrel match.

Winchester may have phased out with putting a serial number on both (I'm too lazy to check my reference book :D) but it could very well be a take off barrel from another gun that was either cut or standard length.

I had to go pull my model 12 16ga and see what the barrel length was it's 28" full choke and has a rib serial # 91XXXX and was made 1942.

I also have model 12 20ga with rib and choke is CYL serial # 64XXXX made 1931.
