Win M94 scope

Picked up a Win 94 in 44 mag. My eyes being what they are I need to "shudder" scope the thing.

I do not want to drill and install the normal side mount. So I got to thinking about making it into a "SCOUT RIFLE"

Does anyone make a mount which allows a long eye relief scope to be mounted on the barrel so that the scope is clear of the ejected cases?

The XS LeverScout mount is viable with either a "Scout" scope or a 2x pistol scope on your Model 94, as long as the rear sight dovetail is approx 4" from the front receiver ring.

If your .44 is a Model 94AE side-eject, it's bolt right on; if it's a top-eject, two 6-48 holes will need to be D/T'd atop the front receiver ring inline with the bore to anchor the rear of the rail.

Although the XS instruction calls for epoxying the rail to the barrel, I mounted one to a Model 94 in .450 Marlin w/o epoxy, and had no issues throughout two years of shooting/hunting.

You can also potentially use a side mount that uses the hole for the finger lever pin cover (the big one on the left of the receiver) and the two little sight screws on the top rear left of the receiver. DONT LOSE THE SCREWS! you'll want them back some day.

You'll need some kind of cheek pad to bring your line of sight into the right spot for the scope, and cosmetically it is not very pleasing.

I have one from my .30-30. I'm very happy to have the thing off the side of the rifle, but it had a big scope, and it would have been better with a smaller shotgun style scope.

I think that a 1x red dot or holographic sight would be perfect on a scout Win 94...well not as perfect as iron sights, but pretty nice.

Ya might want to try out the peep sight that XS sells in lieu of optics to see if that helps as compared to the buckhorn rear sight. (it should)

If your 94 is a pre 64... I'd really think long and hard before I added glass. If it's a later model, go for it. Your eyes will thank you, even if purists don't or won't.

I'm glad to know that. I've got a post-64 that I've thought about "scouting" but I don't like the idea of anything being epoxied to the rifle. I've been playing with the idea of getting a Win94 scout mount and having the rifle D/T'd for the mount. It's a beater with no collector value and I'd like to try the concept.
