Win M670!

Just scored on GB today, just got the email notice and it didn't even hurt the wallet! I know not everyone likes the push feed Winchesters but I sure do. This one is in .30-06 but that will probably change as this makes the 4th .30-06 that I own.

I've been wanting to build a nice light functional .338-06 and this just might be the donor. Thinking I'll send it off for a nice 22" barrel to be installed, Gun Kote everything, and slap it in and ADL style synthetic stock and hopefully come out with a rifle that weighs 8.5 lbs or less loaded, scoped, and with a sling. I know 8.5 lbs doesn't sound light but that is light enough for a cartridge that will mainly see 225 grain bullets being shot in the neighborhood of 2600+ fps.

Man I sure need to get my Class 1 FFL to keep up with all the stuff I've been buying and trading over the years. Hard to beleive that in 03 I could count all my long guns on one hand. This recent purchase now makes 29 for me I guess that only boils down to 3 rifle purchases a year on average.

Good call. I like the old pushfeed Wichesters. I've got a couple and have had others in the past.

I found a used custom 338-06 a couple of years back built on an Interarms action. I'm fairly certain the stock is a Brown Precision and even with a 24" barrel mine is still under 8 lbs with a Leupold 2.5-8X in Talley lightweights. Recoil is not much worse than hot 30-06 loads. Certainly less than 300 mag levels.

Nothing fancy about it at all. Just a clean looking rifle, should rebarrel nicely into a .338-06. Should be able to make it lighter than the present one I have as well. Don't know if I'll take a rasp and file to the current stock or, get a synthetic for it.

What ya goina hunt wit dat 1? just kidding, I'm thinking hard about an FFL for myself but I already have so many IRONS in the fire to concentrate on it. Maybe next fall,:o But congrats on the 70 dude. Hope you turn it nice and easy.;)

If the Win. 670 is just another name for the Ranger, then it is one fine rifle. My Ranger has never given a single feed or ejection problem. 100% reliable. And with the right ammo (I handloaded mine) will give sub 3/4" five shot groups at 100 yds. I never fancied mine up, just load and shoot.
BTW, I prefer the blind magazine. I have seen too many floored mags. fall open on shooting with some very expensive rifles.
