Win. 68 & 69 Front sight removal ---

I have a Winchester model 68 and also a Win. 69 with the same type
front sight on a ramp. They have a small thin metal clip that looks like
it slides in around the sight bead.
How do you remove that clip without damaging it to remove the sight
and ramp ? Do I need a special tool to take it off to re blue the barrel ?

Thanks

Those front sight hoods just press off towards the front. They are retained on the sight by a notch in the slot in the front sight base and a small raised nub on the inside edge of the sight hood that fits into the notch. They can be stubborn to remove, so use a hardwood pusher and a soft mallet, and be careful.

Reinstallation after refinishing is where most of them get damaged. Just press it on gradually, don't use a hammer.

Winchester 68 front sight---

Thanks for the information.
I managed to get a very small tipped screwdriver that is
about .075 wide and .015 thick down in front of the sight bead and
gave it a slight twist and the clip slid forward---like it was greased.

Thanks again
