Win 44 Trapper?

Was down at a gun shop today and saw a very slightly used Win 94 Trapper in 44 mag (16" barrel). He told me he could part with it for $280. Is this a good price and how are these guns to operate. It sure seems like a slick little carbine for a lefty like me.

Never owned one personally but a good buddy and fellow cowboy shooter had one and it worked fine. The limitation for cowboy shooting is that it doesn't hold ten shells (i don't think). but for a shooter-hunter or whatever they work fine. if i had one and i was going to play cowboy or the like with it-i would definetly find a way to pin the safety plunger so it cannot accidentally get put on safe when you don't want it to be....Sounds like a good purchase to me at a good price.......Dick

Winn 44 Trapper

I have two of these fine rifles one with the standard lever and one with the big loop. Both are great little guns. I have hunted deer with mine and they are great. Easy to handle, and hard hitting when the time comes. Mine both eat cast bullets very well and my sons can ring the 300 yrd gong with open sights on a regular basis. I like these so much that I also have one in 357 and one in 30-30. Your price sounds a little high but if it's in good shape you will enjoy this kind of rifle. Mine are great with the companion handguns. try to get him to let it go for about $265 or through in a box of ammo. 44mag out of a rifle is a lot more than out of an handgun. You can't by a handgun for that price.:D

Don't mean to slam Winchester or anything, but ever since I bought a Marlin 1894P, I'm a convert. I've had a '94 Ranger, '94 Wrangler, and a Rossi '92, and my Marlin beats 'em all hands-down, in my opinion.

I've got a Trapper in .45 Colt, and I love it. I've taken off the buckhorn rear sight and had a Williams peep sight installed on the receiver. The apperture can be screwed out of its housing, and the housing makes a decent "ghost ring" rear.

It's a fun little gun with marvelous handling characteristics. Mag capacity is 9. If you're planning on using it for CAS, get a full-sized rifle with the added mag capacity.

I've got that exact rifle. Sweet piece. I also have a Marlin 1894CP in .357. The Winchester is lighter to carry and smoother. The Marlin is a good solid rifle, but the Winchester is no slouch either. My Winchester has smooth, thinner wood (which greatly improves handling) than the Marlin. I've no doubt that both will still be in in working order and in my safe 40 years from now.

I've got a Burris scout scope on it and it a great brush gun. It holds 9+1 for a total of 10 shots.

$280 is a decent price, if you want it, buy it.
