Wilson KZ-45 Tactical Carry Pistol

I'm seriously considering the purchase of Wilson Combat's new Tactical Carry Pistol (TCP). This is the first Wilson with some composite/Kevlar parts -- principally the frame assembly -- as contrasted to the traditional all-steel Wilson designs. It also accommodates a 10 round .45 ACP magazine internally, as contrasted to the normal seven rounds. Obviously, we are all aware of Wilson's truly superior reliability, durability, quality and peerless customer service.

The TCP has been available for only about five months, so I would GREATLY appreciate any opinions and EXPERIENCES from current owners (or even those who have shot the TCP).

This is a $1,000 investment, which is significantly more than I have spent for Glocks, Sigs, Kimbers, S&Ws, Colts, etc. Therefore, your observations and advice will be most important in my final decision.

Thanks.

I would go for it. Anything Wilson builds is a winner in my book. I just went to the Wilson site and looked up the TCP. 11 Rounds and as slim as the real deal?? GO get it and let us know how it works, especially the 10 round magazine. Mike

Email Terry Peters if you would like to get one. He carries Wilsons. You can get the pistol within one day rather than wait for it to be built by Wilson. Also, Terry's great to deal with. His website is www.pt-partners.com

Thanks for the link. I am looking to order a Wilson.

I wish I could find a way to email them though......?

I think that I want one. There was a previous posting about them, and we do have one member that owns one, he even posted some pics. It looked good.

So this gun is available? I thought so, but the local Wilson dealer said it would be another month or two. Of course, this is the same crabby old man who said "I can shoot 1" groups at 25 yrds offhand with my 1911, you need some of my (REALLY expensive) bullets" I asked him to demonstrate, but he predictably declined.(and gave me a dirty look) Too bad, I wanted to see how he could outperform a Ranson Rest. He has the cheapest prices in town since the store is in the actual ghetto,(like $389 for NIB Glocks) but man is he a jerk. Sorry, just had to get that off my chest.
I really am interested in the KZ-45, 10 round capacity, slim grip, and a hook-type extractor. Sounds really good. I've never even considered paying a grand for a handgun, but if this gun is all it's claimed to be, I may change my mind! I LOVE 1911s, but the design could benefit from modern engineering.

I want one, but I want it in the Commander length.
Anyone know if Wilson is planning to make a compact (short 4" muzzle) model?

Fellows,

I appreciate all the information and would certainly welcome further experiences and insight.

Since several TFL members are interested in Wilson's new TCP, let me add three facts I've learned in the last week: (1) Wilson shipped the first TCPs to dealers in late '99; (2) there is a several month (>4) wait if you order through a sales rep at the Wilson factory in Arkansas; (3) my local Northern Virginia Wilson dealer (American Arms) expects to receive a few TCPs every couple months, which I suspect may be typical for Wilson retailers.

Again, thanks for the information. I will continue to pursue this and keep you advised.

They make a Sentinel. I own one and it handles like a dream. The barrel length is 3.6" and price is $1999.

Alan Yost in Austin, Tx has had a few of the Wilson plastic pistols. There have been complaints of the way the frame feels in the hand. One gun came back. Apparently the front strap is flat with a quick radius to the sides. Those who expected the grip to feel like a 1911 are disappointed. If I were you I would feel one before laying out $1000 on it.
