Wilson Combat KZ-45 Compact

Kentucky Rifle

In my continuing quest for a .45 caliber 1911 style pistol, I have came across the Wilson KZ-45 Compact. It's only a little more than I was planning to spend. Does anyone have one? If you do, I'd like to read your opinion.

Thanks Friends,

KR,

I don't have the KZ-45 Compact, to dangerous to allow them here in CA you know, but I do have one of the first full size KZ-45's produced. I have put in excess of 10K rounds through it thus far. It needed to go back to Wilsons when I first received it for trigger work and to have the grip safety adjusted, but other then that it has not had a problem since. The combination of Kevlar/steel absorbs the recoil more like a Glock then an all steel 1911. The feel in the hand is exactly the same as a Glock 22's which means to say that it is blocker then a standard 1911 but not near uncomfortable or to big like a Para. The mags work well, tac reloads are easier then with a stock 1911 and having that extra round or two is nice.

All in all not a bad pistol for the money. The Compact would make a great carry piece. I would suggest opting for the the newer pryamid sights instead of the stock ones if I could get one but that is just personal preference. The stock night sights will work just fine.

Final opnion, probably a good pistol for the money. Will serve you well especially for a concealed carry piece. Might even buy one if they were allowed here.

Good shooting,

Dean

KR,

Like anything else, the real chore is to first properly define the mission or use the pistol will likely see. That process in and of it's self will eliminate a lot of options out there.

For off the shelf carry/defensive uses it hard to beat the likes of the Kimbers or SA fully loaded pistols in any other their various forms.

For competition pistols the above would serve well as starters until you decided if you want to continue down the competition road at which time a full race pistol may be in order. But at least you would have some time in under your belt to decide on which options will work for you.

A decent pistol and good instruction is better then a fancy pistol with zero professional instruction any day of the week.

Then again, can one really have enough 1911's ????? hummm?

Good shooting,

Dean
