lockinload, I am buying a house, and will carry homeowners', fire, flood, and wind insurance. Do I expect a guest to fall off my balcony, my house to burn down, the river to rise to a record height, or a tornado to carry my place away from its foundation? But would my bank, and my neighbors for that matter, think me foolish not to carry them?
I keep a tool kit, compressor / jump starter / power unit, an entrenching tool, tire chains, a fire extinguisher, and a first aid kit in my truck. Am I paranoid? Am I a wannabe mechanic or firefighter or EMT?
(Actually, I have used all but the fire extinguisher, as far as truck gear goes; plus I forgot to mention jumper cables, a flashlight, and in cold weather a spare coat, gloves, and blanket. I have used all of those but the blanket.)
I always carry a knife; I have since I was 8, and my father gave me a Swiss army knife for my birthday. Useful tools, knives.
So, if all that other stuff would be considered reasonable precautions, why would guns make me paranoid, or a cop or Rambo wannabe?
Please defend your position, as I find it offensive.
