Will weaver medium rings fit a scope with a 40mm objective?

I own a stevens 200 with a sporter barrel, and need to know if weaver medium rings will fit a scope with a 40mm objective. I just bought the rifle, and no one around here carries bases, so I'm buying them online. I just got a scope with a 40mm objective, but the rings that came with it are really high, once I get the bases, it will be even higher. I figured I'd buy rings from the same spot I'm getting the bases from online. I don't want to mess with a cheek piece, just want lower rings. If anyone with a stevens 200 or savage 10 with a scope that has a 40mm objective can tell me what size rings to get I'd appreciate it. Looking for info from someone with first hand experience.
 
You'll have room to spare. I have medium rings with a 42mm scope and it looks like I could have put low rings on. No problem with scope covers either.
