Will Valmet 223 take Galil mags?

Just picked up a Valmet 223 at the show. The seller (a local dealer) assured me that Valmets would take Galil 223 mags. Is tis true? I ordered some of the Orlite Galil mags CDNN has for $20 each on the assumption that it was, but I wanted to get some confirmation.
TIA

I envy you.

I'm not 100% certain, but I don't think they are compatible. They may work with some modification, however. If they are or can be easily modified, will you investigate the magwell adaptor for the Galil that allows it to accept AR-15 magazines? It's not cheap at over $100, but it would make it more versitile and easier to equip.

I had a Valmet 71 in .223 and the only mags I ever found to work in it were Valmet mags . I sold the weapon because of the difficulty in finding mags . It was a great rifle though . Good luck , Mike...

FYI for anyone else looking, Tromix has Orlite Galil mags converted to fit a Valmet for $38. Saved me from spending ~$100 for factory mags.

I have heard that some Valmets don't like Galil mags & vice-versa. Apparently the ones that don't, end up pushing the bullets back into the case causing excessive pressure when the round chambers and fires. Check over on the Valmet Galil site,

My Valmet seems to like Galil mags OK. The early Galil receivers were actually made by Valmet...it could be an early/late production receiver issue. If you're using only military crimped ammo it shouldn't be much of an issue anyway(it's easy to check). If you plan on using hand-loads get some mags from Tony Tromix(his url is listed on the page above)
