To be more precise, when screw in chocks first became available, Winchester, Browning, Ruger, Weatherby and Mossberg all used the same choke tubes. Then as time went on, overboring and longer choke tubes became popular and the manufacturers began using different choke tubes. Browning went to Invector plus, Mossberg used a different choketube size on the overbored 835, Ruger went to something else, etc.
Mossberg 500s still use the original choke size.
