Will these chips in the barrel shroud affect the functioning of the gun?

No. Zero issue.

Metal moves different by metal type. However, finish is still there, so it likely moved, not chipped.

Consider your "chips" vs the lettering S&W did at the factory. What are deeper?

The lettering is considerably deeper. I can definitely feel the lettering, whereas I can only barely feel the "chips".

The family jewelry store back ground has to answer the "your wooden table did that"?

Metal types does several things on a hit. Nothing at all, moves the metal but stays on the object (platinum), light surface scratches or shatters (titanium/tungsten), or flakes off the item when scratched and loses the weight (gold).

On a "hit," any hard object can surface damage metal. Diamonds can shatter too with simple hits.

Strong, yes. Indestructible? no. Surface damage? of course.

When I mentioned the lettering, I'm saying that look how deep they are next to your nicks. So no worries.

Shrouded barrel. Don't worry unless it's the barrel that marred.
