I work for a large electric utility at an electric generating station(non-nuclear), whos company policy prohibits firearms inside the inner fence. You park out side the inner fence, leave your weapon in your locked vehicle and walk about 100 yards to about 600 yards depending on where in the facility you are going. I get called out at all hours of the night, weekends, etc,( people like electricity 24/7), the road to the plant is about 5 miles long and in the middle of nowhere. If I decide I don't want to walk in the rain when I am called at 0200 and leave my weapon at home and I am stopeed or stop to help someone (whatever) and I am killed by an attacker ( this area has alot of bad things going on sometimes, drugs illegal racing, drunks etc.) my wife has instructions to sue. What do you think her chances of winning will be? BTW I am licesened to carry.

Not very good!
Employee rights in this country have all but disappeared a lot like the "middle class". It's basically my way or the highway unless you've got a contract to the contrary.:o
Good luck!

Do they use dogs when searching? or only people? I'm sure you can devise a hiding place for a firearm (she's not bringing a Barrett M82 with her, is she?) in the vehicle that a person can't find without a lot of work. It's very difficult to conceal are firearm from a dog trained to find one.

She won't win the suit. If that is her only option, she should change jobs or forget about the gun.

the funny thing about most company rules

is they will only use them to fire you when they want to get rid of you, for what ever reason. The logical part is that when 'they' decide to drop you from the payroll that is when they start looking for a reason.

I don't understand part of the original question. Sounds like you can carry in your car... it's the walk to the gate that worries you. That is the companies responsibility... they should have proper lighting and such for this area.

Still, some folks are rebels and would just carry into the plant concealed and then put the weapon in a locker or what ever. Just don't disapoint us and be one of those folks on the news when you get mad at your fellow workers.

Depends on the jury - with the understanding that corporate America's arbitrary rulemaking superceded the rights of the individual, of course.:barf: :barf: :barf: :barf: :barf:

To paraphrase the immortal words of DISPENSER 4 HIRE in reply to Gecko_45:
If plan A is for you to get killed and your wife to sue your employer instead of your killer, I would come up with a plan B. Good luck.
:D
