Will S&W J frame grips fit Taurus 605?

Hi. I have a new Taurus .357mag (605) with the itty-bitty, little wimpy rubber grips that came stock. I mean, I have medium-sized hands, but this gun feels like it's 3 sizes too small. I want new grips. Love the finger grooved grips, and would prefer wood if I could find some cheapo ones. Have checked ebay, which has a lot available for S&W but not much for Taurus. What S&W grips will fit my gun? Thanks.

No, S&W grips WON'T fit your Taurus 605.

Taurus Part# 4-304
Hogue

Essentially any grip that will fir a Taurus small frame revolver will fir your 605. Also, I recommend the Taurus 2 part grip (4-304) over the Hogue monogrip. The monogrip shows the steel backstrap, while the Taurus give your a little bit of rubber to help with recoil.

I have the 605

It came with the boot grips, OK for 38spl, but with .357 a little tuff.
I replaced them with the taurus combat grips for about $12. Ordered em right from taurus in Miami, they had them in stock. They cover the backstrap, and I like that a lot. It helps to go high on the backstrap with that one, and I even point my thumb forward to get as high as possible. Even with the combat grips, shooting ..357 is uncomfortable, but bearable. I think if I get my carry permit, I will put the short grips back on. They're ok for 38, and I think that's enough to stop somebody at short range.

I'd recommend Remington .38 spec 158gr +P LHPSWC. Recoil will be very managable, but it won't be pleasant to shoot. Also take a look at some of the lighter Pro Load ammo.

Make sure you know your defense ammo.....

I have the 605 snub and I can tell you it won't shoot everything well. I use wwb 38spl 130gn fmj for target practice. I'm moving up to 158 gn 38spl flat nose jsp for defense ammo. They seem to hit the same spot on the target, and allow for quick recovery. I can shoot 5 shots in about as many seconds accurately. I tried the corbon 125gn 38+p jhp. Lots of noise and blast, but the surprise was how inaccurate they were out of my gun! Only 3 out of five hit the target! They fly all over the place, tumble, and keyhole. Now I'm not saying they do that with every gun, but they do with mine. I have shot 357 loads, the 125gn jsp, and 110gn jhp. They are more accurate out of the 605, and about as accurate as the 38spl loads. way more accurate than the corbons. The only down side is slower recovery due to the recoil, and a lot more noise and flash. I haven't tried the remington "fbi" load yet, but I prefer a jacketed ammo. I'm not a little guy, nor am I afraid of the more powerful loads, but I think in a gun of this size, the 38spl ammo makes more sense.
Just try your defense ammo first and make sure it works for you in your gun. It can be the best thing going, but if you can't hit with it, it's useless.
