I don't see it happening. Guns are now just a small part of the products that the Ruger Corp makes. They are mostly in the industrial casting business now. Their casting facilities in Prescott AZ are the most sophisticated in the world. They make a lot of products that we don't even hear about!! Did you know that Ruger makes golf clubs????
I had read here and elsewhere that a 40cal polymer pistol was under development by Ruger and due by the end of this year. However given the current circumstances and that they're plenty busy cranking up production to meet current demand, that schedule for the 40 might be delayed...
I've been told that the Ruger (.40) polymer is being worked on, and will be due out by the end of 2002. I have not been able to confirm this though, so it might not be correct.
I'm sure that Ruger already has prototypes of a polymer 40 (they have titanium versions). But, gun sales are down this year coupled with those pesky lawsuits, Ruger is slowing down on expanding their product line (along with contributions to the shooting sports).
If you read the financials of Sturm Ruger you will see that firearms are clearly their primary business. However, they have small contracts for casting parts for other businesses.
My question is why do they make something like that but ugly 22 lever action. That can't possibly be more profitable than say a .40 caliber polymer pistol. Though they are sure to be working on one.
