Will my NC CCW permit get issued?

At the end of November I applied for a CCW permit. I'm a long time resident of NC with no criminal record (other than a college underage drinking ticket years ago). I question whether it'll be issued because:
#1. I completed the CCW course 5 years prior to applying for the permit.
#2. I was 20 years old when I took the course with my family.

I looked through the laws and they didn't seem to address either issue as a problem. When I filled out the paperwork and got printed the Sherriffs office didn't say anything about it. But it's been almost the 3mo's and it hasn't arrived, i called to check and they just say they'll call me when it gets in.

NC is Shall Issue.
My Sheriff there attempted to block mine because the FBI Check stalled (according to him). One phone call to the Attorney General's office resulted in a call, within 24 hours, that I could pick up my permit.

It has since lapsed and my Florida permit is honored there. But, IMHO, NC took a step backward when they enacted the Permit Law. Prior to that there was no permit, but carrying concealed was a Misdemeanor. With the law, "prohibited places" include just about everyplace but your home and vehicle....and all violations are now Felony Crime.

It takes forever in NC

BP, it usually takes about 45-60 days to complete the process. It also depends upon your local sheriff. Our's is fairly accomdating but the renewal process really sucked. The first time I did it they took inked finger prints and sent off and that seemed to take longer, when I went in to renew they made me do it electronically. I couldn't figure out why I had to do it again. They also sent the renewal to me only 2 weeks before it expired and by the time they scheduled an appointment my license had actually lapsed. I don't know if there is any time line on the training, I think the law just says you have to show proof that you have. I assume you had the training in NC, if not you should, the laws in this state vary from other states and you need to know. For example in SC you can actually go into an outer building and shoot somone, not so in NC. In NC you can shoot through a door if you feel someone is trying to break in, kill them graveyard dead sight unseen (I wouldn't recommend that) but if their in your house the rules of use of deadly force kick in and you have to prove you were in fear of your life. God forbid you ever face that situation. As Rich said it is shall issue so if everything is in order you should be ok. When in doubt, call the sheriff and ask what the status is. Your permit will save you money on pistol purchases now thanks to the efforts of one of my local legislators, it also may save you from getting a speeding ticket from the State Patrol but it gets frustrating trying to figure out where you are actually legal to carry! Good luck.
