Will Kahr do free repairs for second owners?

Yes. I bought a used K-40 and the mag release set screw broke,
When I contacted them they offered to install the new screw /inspect the gun if I sent it to them, But I asked if they would just send me a new screw and they did.

Well, my dealer had a used MK9 that had some custom work done on it.
The front of the grip had some nice checkering on it, and it felt like it had the Elite trigger.
So I picked up the phone and called Kahr.
"Are used guns covered by the life-time warranty?" was my question.

Simple answer.
"No"
The warranty applies to the original owner.
Now, there may actually be a "Don't ask, don't tell" policy, but with my luck, they would have asked "When did you purchase this gun" and I would have been shafted.
:(

"Let the buyer beware."

If Kahr doesnt do free repairs for 2nd owners, then they are about the only company that doesnt, as far as I know.

Colt and Ruger have both done free repairs on guns I have bought used. To some extent, they probably do this from a liablity standpoint, I would think, so they wont get sued if someone gets hurt with a broken gun.

If you dont tell them you arent the original owner, there is no way for them to know. If they ask you when you bought it, tell them you cant remember. I dont remember when I bought 90% of my guns anyway.

I got a feeling you were told they didnt do free repairs so you would be more inclined to buy a new one. Kahr doesnt benefit if you buy a used gun.

M-2,

The problem is that the Kahr warranty specifies "the original owner" or something like that.

S&W specifies the original owner.

The Taurus warranty specifies that the "gun" is warrantied against defects.
That is a big difference.

I verified all of the above with phone calls, but regardless of what is said on the phone, it is what is on paper that is the final answer.

Ruger and Glock have no stated warranty.
(I am not 100% sure on Glock, I would have to check at home, but I am pretty sure.)
I got used mags rebuilt by Glock, no questions asked.
I have had free parts mailed to my home by Ruger, no questions asked.

Kahr will probably work on your used gun for free.
If they ever decide to start checking records, or asking for proof of purchase, you are screwed. :(

At my dealer, the difference between new and used was about $60. While that is not pocket change, it was worth my peace of mind.

If you are not as paranoid as I am, buy the used Kahr and enjoy!
:D

(Actually, I'm not really paranoid, I've just lived this life for 40+ years, and I have a fair idea how things go. )

Marlin doesn't... found out by receiving a $75 bill just a couple months ago. :(

Just an FYI, In my case I have had the following used guns serviced by ruger (P-95), S&W (mod.19,mod 37), Taurus (mod85 UL) Keltec (P-11),Kahr (P40) They were all bought used and warrenty serviced for free. I think only Ruger asked me if I was the origonal owner and I just said YES.

The S&W mod. 37 was bought used,6or 7 years old and the frame cracked, S&W replaced the gun with a brand new, updated mod. 37 no questions asked.

To do good buisiness you need to stand behind your products, and above mentioned all stood behind theres for me.

Pocketman, did you pay shipping ? maybe that helps:confused: Anyway thanks for the replys guys, It's my first Kahr so I havn't delt with them. It's been 4 days and no E-mail reply from the tech dept. M-2:mad:

M-2..anytime I've sent a used gun for repair, I've paid to shipping, and they have paid return. Again this is just whats happened in my case, I've never told the manufacture I had a used gun.

When e-mailing Kahr, I've always gone to Frank Harris. He has always replied within a week. Usually he replies early sat. am, he must go through his e-mails saturdays.
