Will it blow up my gun if I put a 22LR in my Marlin 22Mag Rifle?

Is it really all that Dangerous to put a 22lr round in a 22Mag rifle? I know it doesn't fit real tight but is there enough pressure from a 22lr round to ruin the gun?

I think this falls into the catagory of "just don't do it".
I sincerely doubt that you would be in any danger of the gun coming apart but I would expect damage to the rifle that would affect accuracy.

What animal said, don't do it. At best you will split a case and have low velocity/poor accuracy. You could damage your rifle or yourself.

You will get poor or no ignition. If the round fires, you will get a bulged or split case. The gun is not going to be damaged, but there is really no reason to do this deliberately.

If the round goes off you'd get gas venting back through the action and perhaps into your face. Wouldn't blow up the gun unless your bullet lodged in the barrel and you were to fire another round. I think any such actions would put you in the running for the Darwin Award. Don't give other gun owners and users a bad name.

I experimented with two .22 mags to discover if r3egular .22 longs would work well. The reason being I carried a .22 mag/20ga overunder as a survival tool in my Beaver aircraft.I had ammo along but my thoughts being that if I was to ever need more while down in the bush that .22s would be the most likely to be found in a trappers cabin. The regular .22 did not have consistent ignition due to being pushed further into the chamber but most could be made to fire.NO barrel damage or otherwise and mediocre accuacy but would have hit a rabbit.

Years ago, Colt brought out a cute little rifle called, if memory serves, the "Colteer", or some such. Anyway, it was a singlw shot that you could get either in .22LR or .22WRM. I bought one in .22LR that spit gas in my face every time I shot the rifle. Turns out it had the bore for the .22LR and was chambered for the .22 WMR. This was back in about 1958-9 as I recall. The case would split at the rim. I took it back for a refund and did not get another as a replacement.

The Lions Club is a good place to start looking for a seeing eye dog. If the .22s don't get ya what your LOOKING for try a .270 in an 06.

308 in 7X57

I once (foolishly not paying close enough attention)
fired a .308 through a 1908 7X57 Mauser. Gun didn't
even blink. didn't realize it until the extracted case looked a little funny with the forward rim curved inward to match the contour of the barrel throat.
This rifle is pretty shot out so the bore is probably closer to .300 diameter than .277.

Pretty scary what could happen. Enough accidents do happen, even sometimes when using the correct ammo. Leave the experiments to te guys in the factory. Those warnings in the owners manual are not all lawyer gibberish.

9mm in .40 Glock

I know a guy who accidentally fired a 9mm cartridge in his his .40 S&W Glock. Don't try this at home, kiddies! Seems that his buddy was standing next to him shooting a 9mm and this guy reached over and picked up the wrong cartridges and loaded them into the .40! Thankfully, no damage was done to him or the firearm.
