Will a 228 mag fit in a 229?

If your P229 is a 9mm you can use the P228 magazines. They will seem loose, at the base, in the mag well as they are slimmer than the P229 mags.

The short answer is yes.
A 10 or 13 round 228 9mm mag will function in a 9mm 229. You can load .40 or .357 SIG into one of the 9mm mags, but not the same capacity IIRC. I don't know if they will feed reliably, because I made sure I traded the magazine back in when I found out it was a 228 mag (I bought a 229).

You could only load .40 S&W into a 9mm magazine if you bend, or trim, the feed lips. The 9mm rim is .394" and the .40 S&W rim is .424". They are not interchangeable without modification.

I know 226 9mm hi-cap mags will feed reliably into my 226/40 and my 229/357, and I did not modify them at all, not a single problem. The MecGar's hold 13 rounds of 40sw.

I believe that P228 and 9mm P229 mags are the same thing. They even have the same SIG product number (280050-10, for the post-ban mag). The P229 frame is derived from the P228 frame--hence the identical mags.
