i have a .270, remington 700 adl, is this a good long range varmint round , and if i load it with 90 grain speer tnt bullets, (pushing around 3300 fps) what kind of range can i get out of this round?

Long Range

Yes the 270 is a good long range caliber!
The 130 or 150 grain rounds have a better flight/less drop
and more engegy where it counts.

The 90 grain should be very accurate but at it's speed will explode on a blade of grass.

I'd say you'll get plenty of range out of it. I think it will really just be a question of coming up with an accurate handload.

I played around with Sierra 100-grain Hollow Points in a .280 Remington several years ago. It wasn't easy to get varmint-level accuracy with it,and by that I mean it seemed to be very tempramental, but I did find a good load using IMR 4064.

Depends on what you mean by varmints. For long range, high volume prairie dogs the .270 would become a bit tiring. For groundhogs, foxes and coyotes where there is less shooting it's a great round providing you are not attempting to recover pelts.

I use a .270 for coyotes and and my favorite load is a 110 grain Hornady V-Max. It drops 'em like lightening.

MADISON , i live in southeast ohio, densely populated, so i like the ideat that the 90 grainer will explode on a blade of grass,
