Anybody have/shot one of these? How's the quality/accuracy/recoil/etc? It seems to me that if you had an extra $1500 lying about, this is the gun to get for the shooter that has everything...

I know where there's one for sale here in the Bay Area, CA.

I've handled it, and it certainly is a handful. Haven't shot it though.

Bowser.

Nightcrawler,

The Wildey is a fun gun to shoot. Because they are a gas operated system the recoil is fairly mild and it can be fired single handed. They have an adjustable gas system and it only takes a short time to set up the gas system for your particular load and then they function very well. The quality is usually very good as well as the accuracy.

Good shooting,
Headache

How about the AutoMag? If you're going to that extreme, the AutoMag firing a rimless derivative of the 44 Magnum is a neater package. I would think $1500 might purchase one, but don't know.

Clint Eastwood used one in one of the Dirty Harry series, maybe the "Enforcer"?

I handled a .45 Win mag. Wildey a couple years ago. After years of drooling over them in Shooters Bible and such it was a real let down. I have pretty large hands with long fingers and Desert Eagles are large but fun to shoot IMO. However the trigger reach of the Wildey was far longer than a DE in SA and the DA was simply impossible. The grip which looks comfy in pics was much larger than it looks and square cornered like a brick. The safety was totally unreachable with the shooting hand. The fit and finish were okay but not great (my $300 Witness is as good or better) and it wore cheap brown plastic grips. My immediate impression was that I wouldn`t want to even fire it. Given a choice I`d certainly for for an original .44AMP Automag instead if I were in the market for something cool and different or a DE if I just wanted a fun magnum shooter. Marcus

The Wildey .45 Win mag that I fired was very unpleasant.

The sharp edge of the frame tore up the web of my shooting hand, the trigger sucked, and the empty cases had a nasty habit of coming right back in your face as well.

If I had more money than I knew what to do with, I might buy one, just to give it to a good smith to see what he could do with it. Otherwise, I'd pass.

Automags are out there, but 1500 seems a bit weak for a shooter. Just remember the parts are getting hard to find, which is why mine is safe bait now.

Hit the automag web page, I think it is 44automag.com.

Good luck.
